Rounding up on a Year
I realized today that we are 2.5 weeks away from having a one year old and I found myself verklempt at the idea that she is no longer my baby. The last few weeks have been pivotal in her development and it's made me realize that she is quickly moving into toddler-hood and independence. Her baby toys have been cast aside for toys that stack, sort, open and close, make music, or that she can stand next to. As of this week, she is crawling everywhere (versus army crawling), she pulls herself up to standing, if I ask her to get books so that I can read to her, she'll go pick some out and bring them to me. It's so fun to watch, but it hit me this morning that we are so far beyond the point of complete dependence on me. In one year, she moved from being a tiny little person who could only eat, sleep, and poop and needed help for anything and everything she did and now into a person who plays by herself, feeds herself, knows how to use a sippy cup, moves around independently, can recognize sounds, people, etc. (Heck, that's a lot to learn in a year. When was the last time I learned that much in one year? Nursing school?) I got all weepy realizing that she is never going to be that tiny little baby again. Ah. Motherly hormones.
